Meditation, Where do I start?
I have recently been seeking out different types of meditation practices and have found that there are so many different types of meditation that I am unsure how to proceed. Google+ has many Buddhist groups and there are many, many places online to learn about meditation so it can become an overwhelming amount of information. So now I am in a sort of limboas to what kind of meditative practices I should attempt. Also I am interested to learn more about the practice of Buddhism in general and once again there are so many options and different types that as a person seeking knowledge the amount can be overwhelming. Anyone have any tips, tricks or advice? Please feel free to contact via my FB page. Link located here.

Meditation is not a quiet place of tranquility as many have suggested to me. Meditation is simply an individual questioning the reason to do something? Am I doing this to cause harmony or am I simply being selfish?
ReplyDeleteMeditation is made to be confusing by those that seek followers and praise from others. It makes them important and gives them influence over another.
Meditation is simply you thinking about the effect of your behavior before you act it out.
Meditation is you balancing ego with humbleness.
Meditation is made to be mysterious by self proclaimed gurus and profit seekers.
Meditation is simple, but can be difficult because it goes against the norms of society, don't worry meditation gets easier with practice and will become second nature.
Don't get relaxing and meditation confused. Relaxing is to clear the mind. Meditation is to focus the mind. Relaxing is to ignore guilt. Meditation is to recognize guilt before it is behaved. Meditation should be constant not every now and then.
Thanks for the reply.
ReplyDeleteHi Jesse. The best advice I can give is not become a meditator - you know, that person that you think meditates. You don't need to be somewhere special, sit a certain way or achieve a state. Everything we look for is already here for us and meditation can be a way to see it. There are many ways to meditate - concentrative meditation is when you focus on something - your breath, your stomach, a release of tension. Awareness meditation can occur when on a walk - where you take everything in - feeling, seeing, hearing with all of your senses. Expressive meditation can be done with dance or whirling or shaking. One of the best sources for me when I started, was Adyashanti's TRUE MEDITATION. It is a book which also includes a cd of guided meditation in the back. After trying so many things, this taught me how not to be a meditator. ;-) Good Luck! Love and Blessings -S
ReplyDeleteJesse - You are right, meditation, spirituality, religion, ideology, and prayer are overwhelming if we allow them to be. My first commitment to myself as I search for guidance and intuition is to give myself a break and not take myself too seriously. Any action and intention I take to grow is good and beneficial. There is no "right" way - there is only a way that makes sense for you, that helps you to follow your intention and your heart/soul. I have studied several types of meditation techniques and tried many of them too. I settled on a hybrid version that works for me and my schedule. Some days I use a mantra (or a positive affirmation) - and some days I simply just completely empty myself of "myself" and just sit in the grace of being. Some days I use a little music and I focus and sense the energy and aliveness of what I am experiencing. I wish you blessings and many lovely moments within your meditation. Blessings - Joleen
ReplyDeleteThank you Joleen. I to am coming to the realization that their are benefits from many teachers and sources. Having recently implemented the use of mantras myself and continuing to work on staying in the present mind and moment has allowed me to experience (maybe see?) events for what they are. Recently having opened up to this inner "revelation" or "connection" has compelled me to help promote and share what little knowledge I can bestow and bridge the gap between the unknowing and the well informed, experienced and knowledgeable community. This will take the support of the community as a whole. With many minds and hearts we can really make a difference. Have a Safe and Happy New Year!
Deletemeditation is appreciating a moment, sometimes it is good to be still when doing so, however mostly we meditate without even calling to mind anything, there are many practices but you and you alone must find the way of harmony, because that is what meditation is most often about...be wary of too many teachers, sometimes while teaching good things they may distract from your own learning. if you have any questions or want to talk PM me, blessed be.
